Books to Learn About Herbalism

on Jul 06, 2026

There is near infinite information to be found online, and it's hard to know who and what to trust. You can read about the benefits of one herb on one website, and then on the next website, read the opposite. There are also many herbs without scientific studies to back them, but with generations of use yielding positive benefits. We love the internet, but even more we love a well stocked bookshelf.

Books are a great place to learn about herbs. There are many trusted herbalists and researchers who have written beautiful and informative books on the topic. Here are some of our favorites.

Books by Susun Weed

Healing Wise - The perfect place to start and a wonderful introduction to nutritive herbs. Also called nourishing herbs, this is the safest class of herbs, and considered food because of their high vitamin and mineral content. We recommend drinking a nourishing infusion daily, and you will always find our water bottle filled with one rather than plain water.

This book introduces Nettles, Oatstraw, Red Raspberry Leaf, Dandelion Root and others. You will learn many of the benefits of these plants, their herbal actions, ways to use them, recipes for them, and also about the Spirit of these plants.

Childbearing Years - Tasha’s most referenced book while journeying through trying to conceive, pregnancy and postpartum. Simple and accessible knowledge that will stay with you.

Menopause - Perimenopause and menopause are an inevitable turn on the spiral of life. This book provides simple and accessible knowledge that empowers you on the journey into your second spring.

Adaptogens: Herbs for Strength, Stamina and Stress Relief by David Winston - An invaluable reference book for Tasha’s second favorite class of herbs (after nourishing herbs). Adaptogens help the body handle stress better, and we can all use that support. They are safe for long term use and there are many to choose from. This book will help you discover which allies you have in the world of adaptogens.

Herbal Antivirals by Stephen Buhner - Great reference with detailed protocols that are backed by science for a wide range of viral infections.

Herbal Antibacterials by Stephen Buhner - Great reference with detailed protocols that are backed by science for a wide range of bacterial infections.
